"Beam me up BFX!" Star Trek is famous for the transporter effect and Erik shows you how to recreate it using two methods: cheap and super-cheap. You can definitely reproduce the transportation effect using fancy software programs in post-production, but in true DIY fashion, Erik utilizes the practical method used in the original series. You can also download the file of the effect below. Transporter Effect Download: indymogul.com Sometimes Funny: www.SometimesFunny.com

Favorite Trek film? I’d have to go with The Motion Picture: Director’s Cut. ‘Tis the only one that actually feels like TOS Trek.
Oh no…you’re wearing a red sweater. That means, if you beam down, you are DEFINITELY going to die. Thumbs up if you thought that when you saw the red sweater!

Youre the best!
That’s Right they used Alka-Seltzer tablets in a drinking glass with a yellow light at the bottom. The cost was making it fit the actor’s silhouette. There were no computers back then that could make the effects they were all hand done and took days some times weeks to complete. The cheapest effect was the old puff of smoke; Lost in Space used this effect to do their versions of instant transportation.
A cheesy effect is one that is obvious how it was made and no need for a show like this. The effects in Star Trek were never cheesy. It coasted the studios $1,000 dollars every time the Transporter was used in the show. That’s at least $7,500 today. That is why in many episodes you never get to see the effect. They kept the secrets of the effect for decades. PS. these guys did it wrong. Here is a hint “Plop Plop Fizz Fizz oh what a relief it is.
my favorite is the 1 with people in it…. lol ive actually never seen startreck
